Handling FFL transfers on your website
How to explain transfers, show your fee, and route online orders to the right dealer without confusing buyers.
Published 2026-10-04
For many shops, transfers are the first reason a new customer walks in. Your website should make the process obvious before the buyer calls.
Say it plainly
- What a transfer is, in one sentence.
- Your fee, and whether it differs for long guns, handguns, or multiple items.
- What the buyer brings: valid ID and anything your state requires.
- How long you hold an item after it arrives.
State requirements vary and change. Link to your state’s official guidance rather than paraphrasing it.
Online orders that need a transfer
When a customer buys a firearm on your site to pick up elsewhere, checkout should collect the receiving FFL and tax the sale where it applies. ArmoryFlow resolves the receiving dealer’s state for tax at checkout, and an order that needs a transfer is marked so on the order.
